Thousand Islands Expeditions | Whale & Dolphin Watching

We offer a variety of wildlife trips around the local islands and offshore on a traditional boat or jet boat with wildlife guides onboard.

We run trips daily to land on and explore the beautiful, unspoilt Ramsey Island RSPB Nature Reserve. At nearly 120m (400 ft) the western cliffs are among the highest in Wales. They are home to Ravens, Peregrines
and Buzzards.  In spring, Guillimots, Razorbills, Fulmars, Kittiwakes and Shags come to nest too. Choughs also breed on these cliffs, seeking out deep fissures and caves in which to build their nests.  In August the cliffs empty as the auk chicks head out to the open sea. Now its time for the Atlantic Grey Seals. several hundred seal pups are born each autumn on Ramsey's beaches and in the caves.  The southern heathlands are a special combination of heather, gorse and coastal plants. In August they come into their glory, when the heathers and gorse flower together. This habitat is the haunt of Stonechats, Meadow Pipits, Linnets and Skylarks. The summits of Carn Ysgubor and Carn Llundain give splendid views to the mainland, south to Skomer Island and on the clearest of days, west to Ireland.  We run a couple of boat trips a day around the island with a guide onboard.  As well as the seabirds and seals we have resident harbour porpoise and the occasional visiting Basking Shark, whale and dolphin who choose to venture close inshore.

Whale and Dolphin Watching trips are 2 1/2 to 3 hours of stunning Pembrokeshire scenery and an amazing diversity of wildlife. Our guide talks with you as we venture offshore to the RSPB island of Grassholm, home to the 2nd largest gannet colony in the northern hemisphere with over 39,000 pairs of breeding gannets.  We then continue our cruise out beyond Grassholm Island into the distant waters of the Irish Sea in search of a sighting of common and rissos dolphin, porpoise, orca, sunfish, turtles and whales and a wealth of seabirds like puffins and shearwaters and of course the seals. Binoculars and identification books onboard. We will try to make your voyage comfortable and breathtaking.

We also run a variety of other wildlife trips which are listed on our web site.

An incredible trip started spotting harbour porpoise in the ramsey sound, aboard a state of the art jet boat, swiftly moving to grassholme island to veiw the massive gannet colony and grey seals spotted by the very knowledgeable on board tour guide, then out in to the absolutely flat irish sea where the crew found us two pods of dolphins which swam along side the boat too many to count, the high light being able to lay on the front of the boat whilst the dolphins swam along with the boat, almost close enough to touch, an afternoon that will take a long time to forget and pictures that money can't buy, i would well recommend this trip, it was sunny and clear weather when we went though we were glad of taking warm clothes for the return trip. An experience never to forget.
