WCA VISION

The World Cetacean Alliance represents a new and powerful global community willing to work together to protect whales, dolphins, and porpoises (collectively known as cetaceans), and their habitats.

We stand by the following principles:

• The Alliance actively seeks recognition and influence as the largest international network of experts and advocates for cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises).

• Our emphasis is to involve the widest possible stakeholder community, and especially the general public, in all of our agreed strategies, policies and programmes; globally, regionally, and locally. We believe everybody deserves a say in the important decisions that affect whales and dolphins.

• We will seek innovative and positive solutions to the issues affecting cetaceans by adopting an inclusive, solutions-driven approach at all times.

• As the global partnership empowered to speak with one voice to protect cetaceans and their habitats, we recognise the value of collaboration and respect the ideas and principles of all of the partners as equals.

Stopping orca captivity and saving the last 55 Maui's dolphins

Collaborative strategies for protecting the world's whales, dolphins and porpoises

The 2nd World Whale Conference and inaugural meeting of the World Cetacean Alliance (WCA) will be a groundbreaking event as NGOs, whale and dolphin watching tour operators, and passionate individuals from across the world meet for the first time to discuss how to deal with the major threats to the world’s whales, dolphins and porpoises.

This interactive conference welcomes people from all nations and backgrounds. We value your skills and ideas, whether you are an expert or a member of the public with a passion for whales and dolphins - join in and get involved!

Five reasons why you can't afford to miss this event:

1. Contribute to the largest global outreach programme ever completed for cetaceans

Areas of Concern for cetaceans

Map your Areas of Concern for cetaceans worldwide, and find out how the global community views the big issues! Discover what's critical and be there as we uncover hidden sites that are under threat around the world.

2. Help us put an end to keeping killer whales in captivity

It's time to target SeaWorld's biggest suppliers and ask them to do the right thing! They must refuse to support captive orca facilities once and for all. We reveal our plans and discuss how together we can make a big impact with this campaign.

3. Agree and implement a plan of action for critically endangered Maui’s and Hector’s dolphins

With just 55 Maui's dolphins left in the world, we need everybody attending the conference to play their part. We need your help like never before as we plan to empower people to help the last remaining Maui's dolphins before it is too late! Photo (left), Steve Dawson

4. Join the World Cetacean Alliance, the most positive coalition to come to the aid of whales and dolphins in years

We are relying on you to help us grow and lend your support and ideas to make this new global partnership the success that cetaceans deserve. Help us by taking part in discussions that will lead to strategies to deal with the priority issues affecting cetaceans and strengthen the scope and effectiveness of the Alliance and its partners.

5. New kids on the block

Understand how the Alliance is changing the political landscape of the save the whales movement as we develop an operating framework and agree a constitution for the Alliance at the conference.
