We have daily whale-watch trips from April to November out of the port of Tarifa (South of Spain) / Weekly courses for families or groups envolving whale-watching, research and courses (English, Spanish, German) / Building project for recuperation center for marine mammals in Morocco.

firmm means foundation for information and reseach on marine mammals.
Our goal is to protect the whales and dolphins in the Strait of Gibraltar by raising awareness and passing information gathered by our research platform to the general public.
This is done by respectfull whale-watching, courses, 45 min. introduction talks before the trips, conferences, internet...
"ONLY WHAT WE KNOW WE CAN APPRECIATE AND LOVE, AND THEREFORE WILLING TO PROTECT".
Part of or projects:
In order to help protect marine mammals in all kind of different ways possible, raise awareness, help whale-watching regulations to be followed, inform captains of fast ferries about the presence of Cetaceans in the Strait, and prepare a unique rescue center for marine animals on the Moroccan side of the Strait.

About our skippers and naturalist guides
It is important for us to treat the animals with the demanded respect in order to minimize any disturbance. Therefore our skippers are specially trained to drive the boat in a careful manner. The organization firmm has also sent in "regulations for a respectful whale watching" to Spanish authorities in Madrid. Hopefully, one day all whales in Spanish waters can profit from that.

Since 1998 our research team has recorded and documented every sighting of whales and dolphins. Besides collecting information about the status of the different populations of cetaceans we want to improve our knowledge on the spot and finally emphasize our demands for protection. Our scientific work is supervised by professor David Senn, who besides being a member of the foundation board is also a member of the scientific committee of the 'International Whaling Commission' (IWC). To date our research has included the following:

■Diversity of species (logging of all sightings)
■Photo-ID (recording of populations and migrations)
■Mapping (temperature and plankton in connection with the appearance of different whale species)
■Nutrient flux (plankton in the oceanic food chain)
