Mar Ilimitado | Tourism & Research | Whale & Dolphin Watching

Mar Ilimitado is a private initiative that presents services in ecotourism and scientific research. It provides dolphin and other marine wildlife watching trips, as well as a variety of boat tours along the stunning coastline of Western-Algarve.

It was founded in 2005 by a team of experienced marine biologists determined to promote scientific research and conservation of cetaceans, as well as protect and preserve the underwater world.

Mar Ilimitado (meaning: "Unlimited Sea") develops its own research projects (cetacean monitoring and photo-identification, diving exploration, etc) in which tourists can get involved. It also carries out projects in cooperation with some Institutes and Universities, by promoting the development of research topics (thesis, etc) and ong term monitoiring of marine wildlife and ecossystems.

Other wildlife and points of interest

In Sagres the most common encounters are with dolphins, but whales are seen in several occasions (beeing Minke whale the most frequent). Sagres coastal area presents high levels of biodiversity due to the presence of a major submarine canyon: St. Vincent. Here we can encounter sea turtles (Loggerhead), sharks (Blue, Baskin and Hammerhead) or the Sun fish. Sagres is on the route of an important bird migration corridor. Seabirds are no exception and some rare seabirds can be sighted here, especially between August and November (Wilson's and European Storm Petrels, Balearic, Cory's, Great, Manx and Sooty Shearwaters, Northern Gannets, Great and Long-tailed Skuas and Audouin's Gull among others). Our long time experienced team will be glad to lead you in one of our pelagic tours. Also part of our trips is a beatiful landscape scenario: views over a wild coastline or Cape St. Vincent, the most souhtwestern point of continental Europe.
