Imagine being up close and personal with some of the largest, most graceful and rare mammals in the world as they migrate and surface from the deep sea through the abundant feeding grounds of Monterey Bay – the Whale Watching Capital of the World. With over 25 years experience on Monterey Bay and a fully narrated cruise with our on board Marine Biologist, you will learn about these  magnificent Dinosaurs of our time on the most pristine and spacious vessel in the harbor, the Sea Goddess, Coast Guard certified for up to 93 passengers. Our passengers get excited about seeing whales up close and personal interacting and rubbing their barnacles off against the boat, which they do voluntarily on occasion, watching the largest mammal on earth - the Blue Whale, seeing predation events whether it is orcas on the hunt for its prey, or humpbacks lunge feeding at the surface. Departing from Moss Landing, the Sea Goddess is situated in the center of Monterey Bay between Santa Cruz and Monterey at the mouth of the Monterey Bay Submarine Canyon where the whales play, live, and feed on the abundant anchovies, squid and sardines in this rich nutrient sea canyon - This means more time watching the whales and less time chasing them down! Guaranteed whale sighting or your next trip is FREE.

About Sea Goddess Whale Watching
Naturalist Maren Rimmer

We are thrilled to have one of the top naturalists in all of Monterey Bay on the Sea Goddess and know that you will be amazed by her passionate education of these magnificent creatures during your trip with us.

Introducing Sea Goddess Whale Watching Naturalist Maren Rimmer.

Maren Rimmer, a graduate of California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB), has a degree in both Marine and Coastal Ecology as well as Biology. After college, Maren went on to complete an internship with the Turtle Hospital at MOTE Marine Laboratories in Sarasota, FL before returning to Monterey Bay. She is incredibly passionate about sharing the beauty of such a dynamic ecosystem with a vast diversity of marine wildlife with everyone, including visitors and locals alike.

Q & A with Maren Rimmer

Q:  What are some of the coolest animals you've seen out on Monterey Bay?

A:   In my opinion...EVERY ANIMAL IS THE COOLEST!!! Everything from the mighty 100ft blue whale down to the itsy bitsy nudibranchs.  All of these animals make up a part of the food chain and hold their own importance to our delicate ecosystem.  Orcas have always held a special place in my heart as they are the top predator of our bay and because of the excitement our guests get when we cross paths with them.

Q: Why do you like working with Sea Goddess?

A: The Sea Goddess has always held a special place in my heart.  It was the vessel that really got me started with whale watching.  I met some of my best crew-mates on this vessel as well as some of the most interesting people from around the globe.  Since its renovation, the Sea Goddess offers the most luxurious cruises on the Monterey Bay.  Since our weather is so unpredictable it is nice to have a vessel you can count on to have a comfortable atmosphere.

Q: What is so special about Monterey Bay and the Monterey Submarine Canyon?

A: The Monterey Submarine Canyon makes our bay different from everywhere else in the world.  It offers colder, deeper waters closer to shore and because of the upwellings that occur in the canyon, spurs up a large food supply for the whales.  This is why Monterey Bay is known as one of the whale watching hubs of the world, because of the vast food supply they have for the larger cetaceans closer to shore.

Q: What do you hope people experience and learn with you on board?

A: I would hope that people can appreciate the local marine animals and habitats as much as I do.  Some of the things we see on the water many have only seen on television; to experience these larger than life animals first-hand and sometimes up close is quite indescribable.

Q:  From your observation, what do people get the most excited about when coming out on a trip with Sea Goddess?

A: Some people get excited about seeing whales up close interacting with the boat (which they do sometimes voluntarily), some get excited seeing predation events whether it is orcas during a fresh kill or humpbacks lunge feeding at the surface, some people are just excited to see the shore after feeling a little sea sick!

Maren has also worked with many wildlife rescue and rehabilitation programs including the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Sea Otter and Research Conservation (SORAC) program, The Marine Mammal Center, and the SPCA for Monterey County where she worked full-time as a Wildlife Rehabilitation Technician.
