AMPA (Friends of the Manatees Association) is a nongovernmental organization that started due to a need to support protection, conservation, and research activities related to the Amazonian manatee and other Amazonian aquatic mammals: the giant otter, neotropical otter, pink dolphin, and tucuxi (gray river dolphin).
We promote research and environmental education activities in addition to media communication aiming at the aquatic mammals' protection in the Amazon involving urban and traditional communities in the Amazon.
The NGO is a partner of the Aquatic Mammals Laboratory of the National Institute of Amazonian Research - INPA / MCT, located in Manaus – AM/Brazil, and is sponsored by Petrobras, through the Petrobras Environmental Program.
