Clash of the Titans

The most enormous, gigantic, mega, colossal and somewhat large event of the year is coming to WhaleFest! It’s Clash of the Titans!

Join us for the knock-out sensation of 2011 as four wildlife-loving celebrities battle it out for the ultimate prize – the Clash of the Titans trophy and a donation to their favoured charity. Our celebrities are:

Mark Brownlow (top left Titan):

Highly acclaimed film producer / director having worked on Ocean Giants, Planet Earth, Blue Planet and many more.

Mark will be talking about his favourite place on Planet Earth - the incredible waters off South Africa which come alive during the annual sardine run!

Carla Armour (top right Titan):

Pioneered the whale watching industry in the Eastern Caribbean, founding “Caribwhale”. Carla and her brother Andrew specialise in escorting the world’s top under water photographers and researchers in the water with the Sperm Whales off Dominica. It has earned them the nickname ‘The Whale Whisperers”.

Carla will be speaking about her beloved Dominica and looking to convince you, her audience, that it really is more special than anywhere else!

Andrew Sutton (bottom left Titan):

Cameraman/photographer/film maker, Director and founder NiceImages London & Madrid, and joint founder of Eco2 diving and marine research centre Tanzania.

Andrew will bring the incredible Straits of Gibraltar to life through breathtaking imagery. Will you be able to resist his charms?

Philip Hoare (bottom right Titan):

BBC broadcaster, and acclaimed author whose latest book, Leviathan or, The Whale, won the 2009 BBC Samuel Johnson Prize for non-fiction. He presented the BBC 2 film Arena: The Hunt for Moby-Dick, and directed three films ‘Philip Hoare's Guide to Whales’ for BBC 4’s Whale Night in 2008.

Philip will be talking about the Azores, a world in microcosm, and a model of sustainable whale-human interaction! But will his interaction with you prove to be a winning one?

Round 1 – we’re just sparring!

Each celebrity will take to the floor to convince you, their voters, that their favourite place to watch wildlife on the planet is more worth saving than their rivals’ choice. Prepare for amazing photos and videos, empassioned pleas, and astounding facts, as you join them on a journey of discovery that oozes passion for their dream location.

Round 2 – taking it on the chin!

It’s time for you to get involved as we take questions from the floor for each celebrity to answer. Have you bought into their ‘hard sell’; is their confidence convincing you, or are they just barking up the wrong tree? It’s time for you to challenge their ideas and test their knowledge!

Round 3 – below the belt!

Each celebrity has three minutes for one final appeal to the audience as things get down and dirty! Expect your celebrities to dish the dirt on their opponents’ campaigns whilst sexing up their own as they make one last desperate bid to lift the Clash of the Titans trophy!

Round 4 – the knock-out punch!

The crucial moment has arrived. As silence descends on WhaleFest for the very first time and you can almost reach out and touch the tension in the air, it’s time for you to vote in the winner of Clash of the Titans 2011.

Round 5 – the victory celebrations!

Expect champagne and acceptance speeches galore as the winner parades the trophy and dedicates the proceeds to their favoured wildlife conservation charity.

More about our celebrity speakers and the charities they are fundraising for!

Our celebrity speakers are currently being put through rigorous trials involving Lion taming, Narwhal jousting and Whale sumo wrestling to discover if they have the skills and stamina to go the distance as Clash of the Titans contestants.

Four charities stand to benefit equally from funds raised from a giant raffle plus 25% or the ticket fee for this event. They are:

Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society - being supported by Andrew Sutton

HelpLanka - being supported by Philip Hoare
