Our whale watching company is located in Moss Landing, the heart of the Monterey Bay in California. Blue Ocean Whale Watch is operated by the owners of the business, so our passengers are well accommodated! Captain Jim Davis and Kate Cummings, a naturalist, started the company after they teamed up on a whale watching boat during the summer of 2010, when thousands of locals and tourists flocked to the bay to see the incredible numbers of blue and humpback whales feeding on the abundance of krill.
We have a good eye for spotting all kinds of wildlife: from the endangered leatherback sea turtle to the giant blue whale. We always approach with caution and abide by all marine mamal protection laws. Once whales become comfortable with our presence and feel our positive engergy, they often approach us!
Whales and dolphins are in the Monterey Bay year round, and here are the different species we see throughout the year:
December-April: Gray whales, common dolphins
March-November: Humpback whales
July -November: Blue whales, Fin whales
All year: Killer whales (orcas), Pacific white-sided dolphins, Northern right-whale dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, Dall's porpoise, California sea lions, harbor seals, Calfornia sea otters, and local & migratory birds.
Join us! We've got a great boat with a high observation deck for taking unforgettable photos of your experience on the bay. We're waiting for you on board!
